![]() once at that size i'd definitely look at the panasonic lx100 that greg mentioned, because it has a m4/3 sensor which is larger than other compacts at this body size have. they also offer larger sensor, and more manual controls which makes their bodies bigger. Then there are the more serious compacts like the mentioned canon, sony and equivalents from other manufacturers. i don't think there is much else in the market at this size, with a viewfinder. it also has a slightly larger sensor than the typical point-and-shoot compact, records raw and offers full controls. I bought a panasonic lf1 for my girlfriend, because it's very compact and has a viewfinder which she prefers. Or should I stick with my Powershot (which is still working well as a camera) and just accept that I need to take the batteries out of it when I'm not using it? It would be nice if it took SDHC memory cards, because I have some of those. I like Canon, but I'll go elsewhere if necessary. So can anyone recommend a compact that's still on the market which does have a viewfinder? It doesn't have to be waterproof - I have the Fuji if I need that. I've tried it with a waterproof Fuji compact, but I don't like it. I'm useless at taking pictures without one, in bright outdoor light. But what was an unpleasant surprise is that many compacts (including the latest Canons) don't have viewfinders. Looking at other compacts, I see that prices have gone up, no surprise. It's been a nice little camera, but it cost under £60, so I thought maybe it's time to replace it. There's no sign of damage or leaking in the battery compartment, so my best guess is that the on/off switch isn't completely switching off any more, and the camera is pulling a constant trickle from the batteries. (It takes 2 AA alkaline.) They go flat in the space of a few weeks, even if the camera hasn't been used. Recently I've noticed that it appears to be eating batteries. My preferred camera is a compact, a Canon Powershot A560, which is now several years old. Okay, I have an SLR with a couple of lenses, but I seldom bother to carry it.
